The interior of the dome is unbelievably colorful and beautiful. Painted by Giorgio Vasari and Federico Zuccari in 1572. The dome's interior measures 1 square acre!!! It's so huge that my wide angle lens couldn't cover it even though I was 300 feet below it. The center cupola is 300 feet above the floor but the base of the dome is 75 feet above the floor making for a very steep interior curvature. However, in looking at this picture you don't notice that extreme curvature because Vasari painted using a perspective that would attempt to make his painting appear flat when viewed from the fl
