Church of Santa Croce

This is the Chuch of Santa Croce on the Piazza Santa Croce. Started in 1294 and completed in 1385. It was not until 1850 that the church received its Marble fascade. Santa Croce was a fransiscan church dependent on the donations of wealthy parishners who then had the right to be buried there. The church became a pantheon for the important figures in the fine arts, music, literature, politics, science and intellectual life and a tomb for the likes of Michaelangelo, Dante, Rossini, Donatello, Machiavelli, DaVinci, Raphael, Marconi, Fermi and other Florentines and Italians.
